Does the perfect, “low-cost, high-quality” cartridge exist? It’s considered to be like searching for the Abominable Snowman, Yeti or Meh-Teh. This “mythical creature (I’m referring to the Abominable Snowman) first emerged as a facet of Western popular culture in the 19th century. The scientific community has generally regarded it as the result of a complex of intricate folk beliefs. In other words, it does not exist. So why do so many keep searching for it?

Most people know that you only get what you pay for. In other words, if you pay a high price for something, you can expect to get a high-quality product. Conversely, if you pay a rock bottom price, you should not be surprised if the quality is also very low. It makes sense. Yet, like the Abominable Snowman, everyone in the printing supplies industry is looking for the high-yield, high-quality printer cartridge which is the cheapest you can find anywhere in the world.

Berto has some fun with this theme this month (see above).

In spite of it sounding ridiculous, there are some “high-quality, low-cost” aftermarket printer cartridge solutions becoming available. The advent of the fourth industrial revolution has arrived. Otherwise known as  Industry 4.0, it is more than simply adding automation to the manufacturing process. It’s about the use of modern smart technologies. Large-scale machine-to-machine communication and the internet of things (IoT) are integrated for increased automation, improved communication and self-monitoring, and production of smart machines that can analyze and diagnose issues without the need for human intervention.

There are some in the imaging supplies market that claim they are now able to manufacture the perfect, low-cost high-quality printer cartridge. And the link to this article: Automation: to be or not to be? may provide you with more information about it possibly being beyond fiction.

Maybe the Abominable Snowman really does exist. Keep looking.
