Steve Weedon Honoured with Prestigious Industry AwardThe Diamond Pioneering Award for 2021 was presented to Steve Weedon during the annual RT Global Industry Awards in Zhuhai, China.

The event was held on the first day of the annual RemaxWorld Expo on September 16, 2021, at the Zhuhai International Exhibition and Convention Centre.

Weedon was nominated by individuals in the industry during June and July and was one of three finalists that went before the independent, international judging panel.

Weedon was presented with the award for founding and establishing The Recycler Trade Magazine in September 1992 to serve the emerging laser and inkjet cartridge remanufacturing industry in Europe; and for holding CEO and senior management positions since 1975 in Europe, USA and China with various printer OEMs as well as at Katun Corp, Static Control Components, Cartridge World, Print-Rite Europe and Print-Rite Pelikan Solutions.

The Diamond Pioneering Award is presented in memory of imaging pioneer Art Diamond and is presented annually to an individual that demonstrates a unique enterprising, pioneering, or entrepreneurial spirit that advances the imaging industry.

Each year Art’s son Glenn, or daughter Eve, makes the presentation. This year, Eve Diamond made the announcement via a video hook up from California USA. COVID-19 protocols prevented Weedon from travelling to China as he has done every year for more than a decade. He also participated through a video hook up.

“I am flabbergasted, and totally taken by surprise,” Weedon said. “I knew Art Diamond very well and he gave me a lot of support to get the magazine started in Europe.”

Weedon also commented that one does not enter a lifework expecting to get awarded for one’s efforts.

“To receive this award named after Art Diamond is truly the biggest honour this industry has to offer.”

An edited version of the award ceremony including Eve Diamond’s announcement and Steve Weedon’s acceptance will be broadcast shortly.
