Market Trends and Highlights for Q3, 2025

Q3 turned out to be a busy season for OEMs, with numerous new products launched. That’s my immediate impression after reviewing the news in the last quarter. So, what are some of the keywords for this quarter? Let’s dive in.

Innovation

In July, EufyMake launched its eufyMake UV Printer E1, an all-in-one 3D texture printer designed to lower the bar for personal creative printing. It is reportedly the world’s first personal UV printer.

In September, Toshiba America unvieled its Encompass Tag & Assessment Generator (eTAG)—the industrys first and only mobile, QR-enabled, self-service printer registration solution.

Eco-friendliness and Sustainability

The eco-friendly inks market is projected to grow 5.8% annually to reach USD 8.9 billion by 2035 driven by rising global demand for sustainable solutions, according to Future Market Insights. Eco-friendly inks—water-based, UV-cured, and bio-based options—are becoming mainstream for their ability to reduce environment impact.

On the OEM side, Epson, Brother and Canon all emphasized sustainability in their new product launches in Q3.

  • Epson America introduced its seventh generation of Eco Tank cartridge-free printers (EcoTank ET-3950 and EcoTank ET-4950) in July, enabling affordable color printing without frequent cartridge changes.
  • In the same month, Epson Japan released two new EcoTank printer models—the EW-M678FT and EW-M638T —offering ultra-low printing costs and fewer ink refills.
  • In September, Epson released three additional EcoTank series (ET-2950, ET-3950, and ET-4950), totaling seven new models featuring up to three years of ink supply and with high-yield ink bottles to reduce waste.
  • Also in September, Epson announced eight new inkjet all-in-one models, expanding its Work Smart and INKvestment Tank lines with refillable options and generous in-box ink.
  • In September, Canon expanded its imageFORCE portfolio with six new office printer series, including the imageFORCE C3150, which uses recycled plastic components to support sustainability goals.

In addition, Fujifilm established the Circular Manufacturing Center at Fujifilm Optics Philippines Inc., in July, promoting the resource circulation in the Asia Pacific by producing remanufactured machines.

Security Concerns and Solutions

Printer security remains overlooked, posing significant risks to organizational cybersecurity, according to HP Wolf Security. A recent report revealed vulnerabilities in printer hardware and firmware across all lifecycle stages.

  • In July, more than 750 printer models from major brands—including Brother, FUJIFILM, and Toshiba—were reported at riskof being hijacked into botnets, according to recent findings from CrowdSec and Rapid7.
  • To enhance cloud printing security, Microsoft introduced Universal Print Anywhere within Microsoft 365. This “pull-printing” approach holds print jobs in a cloud queue until users authenticate in person, reducing the risk of unauthorized access.
  • Meanwhile, Canon’s new imageFORCE 710 Series features machine learning-driven security configuration recommendations, while the imageFORCE C611 Series offers Security Environment Estimation for stronger protection.

Local Manufacturing

In July, Epson opened a manufacturing facility for high-capacity ink tank printers in India, in collaboration with its local Partner RIKUN Manufacturing。

“The investment not only reflects confidence in the Indian economy but also signals Epson’s intent to become a larger player in the region, both in manufacturing and innovation,” said Dhruv Mahajan, Industry Professional based in India.

Market Landscape Change

  • Xerox completed the acquisition of Lexmark from Ninestar corporation, PAG Asia Capital, and Shanghai Shouda Investment Centre.
  • Mitsubishi Chemical Corporation announced plans to withdraw from the production and sales of polyester resin used in printer toner.
  • ETRIA Co., Ltd., a Ricoh-Toshiba joint venture, will establish a new domestic production company via an absorption-type split with its subsidiary, Yamanashi Electronics Co., Ltd. (YEC).
  • Advanced Green Systems Ltd. (AGS) officially launched a toner cartridge filling and assembly facility in Egypt’s Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZone), positioning itself as a strategic supply chain hub for the Middle East and Africa (MEA) .
