Thermal Printer Market Grows with E-commerce Trend
The Qianzhan Industry Research Institute has released a new report titled Outlook on the Global and Chinese Thermal Printer Industry and Investment Strategy Planning, offering insights into the development prospects of the thermal receipt printer market.
Globally, the rapid growth of e-commerce and the retail sector has significantly boosted the adoption of thermal receipt printers, known for their convenience, cost-effectiveness, and eco-friendly attributes. In other industries, including hotels, restaurants, logistics, and healthcare, thermal printers are also seeing increasing use, highlighting strong global demand.
The report also records the growing trend of therm receipt printers being employed for mobile point-of-sale (mPOS) systems, especially those paired with tablet-based POS setups. Another market trend is printers designed to support common tablet operating systems such as Android and iOS, by incorporating compatible interfaces and software.
In China, the thermal receipt printer industry is currently in a phase of rapid expansion. Survey data shows that domestic shipments reached approximately 3.78 million units in 2022, 3.69 million in 2023, and are estimated to reach 3.89 million in 2024. With continued diversification in application scenarios—covering retail, logistics, healthcare, and finance—and as devices evolve toward smarter features, wireless connectivity (e.g., Wi-Fi, Bluetooth), and environmentally friendly designs, market demand in China is expected to maintain steady growth.
Leading global companies in the thermal receipt printer industry include Xprinter Group, Epson, Zebra, and TSC. Both global and Chinese market are concentrated, with top three players accounting for more than half of the entire market share in 2024.
