Procolored Printer Driver Found with Bitcoin-Stealing Malware
Procolored, a manufacturer of DTF printers, has recently been accused of distributing malware through its official driver software.
According to a review article on Procolored’s V11 Pro DTO UV Printer, the USB drive supplied with the printer was identified as containing the Floxif virus—one of the most severe types of infections, which can render a system irreparable. In addition, the official control software available on Procolored’s website is flagged as a potential threat and blocked from downloading by Google Chrome. When contacted, Procolored stated that these warnings were false positives.

However, a researcher from G-Data CyberDefense analyzed the files and reported that they contained two types of malicious code: an backdoor program and a stealer program, which monitors users’ clipboards for cryptocurrency addresses and replaces them with the attacker’s address—effectively hijacking cryptocurrency transactions. As of now, the attacker’s address has received a total of 9.3 bitcoins, worth approximately USD 1 million.
Despite denying the presence of any malware, Procolored has removed the download links for the affected software from its website. The company explained that the software was originally transferred via USB drives, during which a virus may have been introduced. They also noted that the software was in Chinese by default, which might be falsely flagged as malware on some systems.
As of now, the nature of the attack remains unclear—whether it was a deliberate act by the company or a man-in-the-middle attack carried out by a third party.
