Ricoh Launches AI Facility Management Pilot with Thread AI

Ricoh has announced a collaboration with Thread AI to pilot an AI-based system for automating facility management operations at its sites in Japan.

The pilot will combine Thread AI’s AI orchestration technology with Ricoh’s digital twin capabilities to create a platform that integrates digital twins, multimodal AI, and workflow orchestration. The system is intended to support end-to-end facility management processes, from AI-assisted decision-making to operational execution.

According to Ricoh, the pilot will initially focus on internal facility management tasks, including site inspections and maintenance. The platform will integrate data from cameras, sensors, and equipment to enable real-time anomaly detection, situational awareness, and more efficient workflows. The company said it will use the results of the pilot to assess the technology’s effectiveness, improve facility management operations, and support the development of future digital services.

Ricoh said the initiative is part of its participation in the Plug and Play innovation platform, which it joined in September 2025. The program connects established companies with startups, investors, universities, and public-sector organizations to support collaborative innovation.

Company executives said the partnership reflects a broader effort to move AI from experimental projects into operational use. Ricoh stated that insights from the pilot could help standardize facility management processes, reduce reliance on individual expertise, and support the deployment of scalable operating models across multiple sites. Thread AI said the collaboration demonstrates how AI orchestration can be applied to automate workflows while maintaining oversight and traceability.
