More Companies Affected by “Dongle Gear” GEO

On January 12, the U.S. International Trade Commission (USITC) issued two separated seizure and forfeiture orders against two companies: California-based Ninestar Technology Co. Ltd and California-based Smart A Inc.

The U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (Customs) notified the USITC they had denied the entry of two companies’ toner cartridge products by reason of general exclusion order (GEO). After reviewing the evidence provided by the Customs, the USITC decided these two companies violated 337-TA-918 GEO. Any attempts acted by the companies to import the related toner cartridge products into the U.S. will be prohibited. Accordingly, the Customs has the right to enforce the order and seized illegal products.

On August 31, 2015, the USITC granted a GEO based on the 337-TA-918 investigation. Shortly after three months, a first seizure and forfeiture order was issued. It is anticipated that in 2016, more seizures based on this GEO will be conducted by the Customs.
