Mexico Proves to Be New LATAM Gateway

The BRICS markets have been favored by print consumable remanufacturers from other countries for a long time. Many see opportunities popping up as the industry is growing in the booming regions of Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa many of which have escaped the legal battle fields of Europe and North America.

Brazil has been a key BRICS region with many remanufacturers starting here in order to enter other LATAM markets. However, with its political and economic woes in the last year, together with lawsuits (Canon took legal action against “copycat”, compatible cartridges to defend its intellectual property rights in May), many are wondering, “Are the lucrative days over for this region?”

Meanwhile, big contracts and business deals took place each day at the RT Imaging Summit & Expo—Americas 2016 held in Cancun, Mexico on June 2 and 3. The organizer found there were still many shaking on business deals right up to the 6pm closing time each day.

By hosting 1,112 visitors and 75 exhibitors—mainly from north and South America, although some came from Europe, India, Africa and Asia—the event proved that Mexico could be the potential, next-door market of Brazil. Exhibitors told the organizer RT Media that the Expo was much, much better than they expected.

Graham Galliford (pictured), President, Galliford Consulting & Marketing, believes the summit showed the industry how to scale the heights and reach the pinnacles of performance in businesses. Galliford commented, “What a Summit! What a great and valuable event! With a focused theme of ‘Prospering in the Americas’ Consumables Market’, the topics encompassed patent and legal issues, market and technology changes, trends and opportunities, and new products and solutions.”

Likewise, Hector Aguirre, the new Business Development Manager at Static Control, disclosed his company will definitely have a stronger presence at the event in 2017.
