InfoTrends Completes Study of Indian Print Industry

InfoTrends is offering a new study, Print on Demand: India, that analyzes the current use of printer hardware, connecting with digital applications, and future requirements and trends in India’s on-demand printing market. Based upon more than 20 first hand interviews with Indian print service providers (PSPs), dealers, OEM vendors and distributors, the study provides a greater understanding of India’s print on-demand market.

Nakul Sharma, InfoTrends’ Indian Analyst, said, “The current print industry in India contains more than 250,000 print service providers with a total turnover of around $20 billion. As almost 75% of print service providers are family-own businesses, their market value is closely held.”

According to the study, India can be expected to become a very large print market. Nowadays, that market is mainly dominated by offset and other analog processes. Despite the size and healthy growth rate of the Indian print market, there is a lack of information on PSPs’ equipment purchase decisions, applications, software, and workflows. As the market in India develops, it is significant for hardware and software vendors to know PSPs’ requirements for their expanding business.

Jim Hamilton, Director of InfoTrends Production consulting services added, “My recent trip to PrintPack India broadened my sight. There is a great interest in wide format, production, digital document printing and hybrid inkjet printing. However, the market requirements are very different.”

Most western companies from developed countries looking to enter this market should find larger and better Indian print service providers. These are the most promising opportunities since they are most likely to enter digital printing in India.
