Brother Reports Strong Frist Half Year

According to Brother, revenue increased 20.8% year-over-year to JPY350.517 billion (US$3.105 billion) for the six months ended September 30, 2021. Business segment profit increased 54.4% year-over-year to JPY 49.401 billion (US$437.661 million). Operating profit turned out to be JPY51.178 billion (US$453.408 million), up 57.4% compared to the same period last year. Profit before income taxes increased 58% year-over-year to JPY51.576 billion. Profit for the period turned out to be JPY 37.114 billion (US$328.809 million), up 50.1% compared to the same period last year.

For the second quarter (Q2) ended September 30, 2021, Brother revenue increased JPY19.628 billion (US$173.877 million) to JPY176.504 billion (US$1.564 billion). Profit increased from JPY 18.095 billion (US$160.292 million) the same quarter last year to JPY18.343 billion (US$162.488 million).

Some other highlights from the Q2 results include:

• Operating profit turned out to be JPY 24.717 billion (US$218.954 million), an increase of JPY1.462 billion (US$12.951 million) compared to the same period last year.
• Profit before income taxes was JPY 24.841 billion (US$220.061 million), an increase of JPY 1.66 billion (US$14.706 million) compared to the same period last year.
• Gross profit increased JPY4.103 billion (US$36.349 million) to JPY 77.580 billion (US$687.281 million).
• Profit attributable to owners of the parent company was JPY18.193 billion (US$161.172 million), JPY114 million (US$1.010 million) more than the same period last year.

Brother predicts revenue will be JPY 695.000 billion (US$6.157 billion) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022, up 10% compared to the fiscal year ended March 31, 2021. Operating profit is expected to grow 82.5% year-over-year to JPY78.000 billion (US$70.8667 million), while profit before incomes taxes is predicted to increase 81.6% year-over-year to JPY78.000 billion (US$690.929 million) for the fiscal year ending March 31, 2022.
