Bambu Lab Expands into Laser and UV Printing

Earlier in August, The company announced that its R1 consumer laser product is scheduled for launch in September. According to media reports, the laser project was formally established in late 2025 and is being developed by an independent team that has grown to more than 100 employees. The R1 is expected to target the consumer market with an emphasis on affordability, although Bambu Lab has not disclosed detailed specifications or pricing.

Bambu Lab previously introduced laser processing as an option for its H2D multifunctional 3D printer, launched in March 2025. The H2D combines 3D printing with laser engraving and cutting, digital cutting and drawing capabilities. The company also made a seed-stage investment in laser manufacturer Yining Optics in August 2025.

On August 19, Bambu Lab separately confirmed that it had officially started development of a consumer UV printer. Its initial recruitment covers more than ten technical areas, including printhead technology, FPGA development, inkjet control, ink-path systems, material validation and software integration. Job descriptions reportedly seek engineers with experience working with printheads from manufacturers including Epson, Ricoh and Xaar, as well as experience in industrial and commercial inkjet equipment.

Consumer UV printing has attracted growing attention in the hardware sector. Products such as Anker’s eufyMake E1 and xTool’s O1 have brought UV printing technologies into desktop-oriented consumer products. According to Mordor Intelligence, the global UV printer market is estimated at approximately $1.1 billion in 2026 and is projected to reach $1.58 billion by 2031, representing a compound annual growth rate of 7.59%.

With the new initiatives, Bambu Lab is now publicly developing products across three technology areas: 3D printing, laser processing and UV printing. The company has not yet announced a release date, specifications or pricing for its first consumer UV printer.
