Zero Waste Offers New Funding to Boost Remanufacturing

Zero Waste Scotland’s Chief Executive Iain Gulland has announced a new £100,000 (US$ 155,850) funding to encourage remanufacturing for items such as commercial and industrial equipment, furniture and small electronics. He said the remanufacturing sector in Scotland has the potential to grow from its current value of £1.1 billion (US$1.7 billion), adding more than £620 million (US$ 966 million) in value by 2020 and generating up to 5,700 new jobs.

Gulland said, “The remanufacturing sector presents a fantastic economic opportunity for Scotland. And Zero Waste Scotland is focused on getting the right infrastructure and supply of products and materials in place for Scotland to reap the rewards.”

Zero Waste Scotland is funded by the Scottish Government to support the delivery of its Zero Waste Plan and other low carbon and resource efficiency policy priorities.

According to Gulland, back into remanufacture can bring back high-value, priority products and materials like electronics and machinery, so it is the key to developing a thriving and profitable remanufacture and re-use economy in Scotland as well as the focus of the latest initiative from Zero Waste Scotland to boost these sectors.

Gulland revealed the Bidders for the funding will have to respond to Zero Waste Scotland’s call for solutions by 18 September.
