South Korean Printer Tara TPS Acquires Chicago Offset

South Korea–based printing company Tara TPS has acquired Chicago Offset, a commercial printer located in Elk Grove Village, Illinois, marking its first direct manufacturing presence in the United States. Chicago Offset will operate as a wholly owned subsidiary, while retaining its brand and local operations. Alongside the acquisition, Tara TPS has launched Tara USA, its first overseas corporate entity, to manage and expand its North American business.

The deal, announced Dec. 10, gives Tara TPS a production foothold in the U.S. and formalizes a dual-continent manufacturing strategy aimed at shortening lead times and improving responsiveness for North American clients. Chicago Offset’s existing capabilities—particularly in sheetfed offset printing and book production—will be integrated into Tara TPS’ broader global manufacturing network.

Founded in 1989, Tara TPS serves clients in publishing, commercial printing, packaging, and K-pop merchandise and album production. Its main production facility in Paju, South Korea, operates a large fleet of offset and digital presses, including multiple Komori sheetfed and web presses, HP Indigo and Fuji Revoria digital systems, and wide-format equipment. The company holds G7 Master Printer, FSC, ISO 9001, and ISO 14001 certifications.

Chicago Offset brings U.S.-based capacity focused on fast-turnaround commercial and book printing. The Illinois plant is known for its Komori sheetfed presses and in-house finishing, supporting a range of short- and mid-run projects for domestic customers.

“This acquisition provides a critical foothold for Tara TPS in North America,” said Wonjae Jang, director of the company’s International Business Division, noting that combining Korean mass production with U.S. manufacturing enables a “dual-production system that dramatically shortens lead times.”

Tara USA will function as the company’s U.S. operational hub, overseeing customer engagement, project coordination, and production planning across North America. The structure is intended to support near-shore production for U.S. publishers, corporate clients, and content companies that require faster delivery or regional manufacturing.

Chicago Offset president Daniel Kim emphasized continuity in operations, pointing to the company’s long-standing focus on speed and quality. He said the firm’s experience and equipment allow it to handle “a wide range of book projects with consistency and precision.”

The acquisition positions Tara TPS to compete more directly in the U.S. market by offering both offshore scale and domestic production—an approach increasingly favored by clients balancing cost, speed, and supply-chain risk.
