Samsung Fights Clones in Europe

According to Wirth Consulting, Samsung Netherlands has accused four local toner cartridge dealers of patent infringement for selling illegally cloned Samsung toner cartridges. The dealers include Yorcom Computers, Digital Revolution, and Maxperian.

In this case, Samsung requested a preliminary injunction to stop the distribution of the non-licensed, illegal toner cartridges.

As was reported by Computable, Samsung alleged these products infringe on its key patents and designs. The patent infringements involve both the part of the toner cartridge which collects used toner and the cartridge’s IC chip’s contact point which enables the printer and toner cartridge to recognize each other. Also, Samsung said its toner cartridges are protected by a registered Community design (IGM).

A ruling on this matter is expected to be announced in January 2014.
