Amazon.com Supports Merger Deal Between Staples and Office DepotE-commerce giant Amazon reached out to regulators to back a merger deal between Staples and Office Depot, reported NewYork Post. Amazon meant to convince the Federal Trade Commission that “it is a viable player in the office supplies business”, so as to help build its share of the office supply sector through its Amazon Business unit, reported NYP Holdings, Inc.

According to TonerNews, Last week, the American Antitrust Institute, a nonprofit research and advocacy organization, challenged Staples’ merger with Office Depot, and asked the Federal Trade Commission (FTC) to take a deep and critical look at the $6.3 billion deal. The Institute worries that the merger would cause a dominance over the office supplies market.

The FTC is investigating the merger and it is likely to be several months from reaching a decision, sources said.
