Ricoh to Sell Dormant Shenzhen Unit
Ricoh announced that its board of directors had approved the sale of a 100% equity stake in its China-based subsidiary, Ricoh (Shenzhen) Industrial Development Co., Ltd., to Shenzhen Hongbang Zhilian Enterprise Management Co., Ltd. The transaction is valued at approximately RMB 900 million (about USD 132 million), with completion expected between late May and early June 2026.

According to the company’s disclosure, the Shenzhen subsidiary—established in 1991 and located in Futian District—has ceased operations and recorded no substantive revenue in recent fiscal years from 2023 to 2025. The entity is currently held indirectly through Ricoh’s regional and China investment arms and remains fully controlled by the group.
The Shenzhen facility was among the earlier foreign-invested manufacturing bases in China’s office equipment sector, producing printers and copiers for global markets. However, production at the site had already been suspended for several years.
Similar to strategies adopted by other Japanese manufacturers in China, Ricoh has been gradually reallocating production capacity to Southeast Asia, where cost structures may be more favorable, while maintaining its presence in China in areas such as research and development, sales, and digital services.
From a regional perspective, the transaction also reflects broader urban and economic trends in Shenzhen. This transition underscores a wider structural shift in major Chinese cities away from traditional manufacturing functions toward innovation-driven and service-based economic roles.
