Worldwide Hardcopy-Peripherals Market Down 4.8 Percent in Fourth Quarter

The worldwide hardcopy peripherals (HCP) market declined 4.8 percent year-over-year to approximately 26.7 million units in the fourth quarter of 2018 (4Q18), according to the International Data Corporation (IDC) Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker.

According to IDC, the brightest spot for the quarter was HP’s positive year-over-year performance of 3.6 percent growth in unit shipments. The vendor expanded year-over-year in its top two regional markets – Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan) (APeJ) and the United States.

Note that in its research, IDC tracks A2-A4 devices; hardcopy peripherals include single-function printers, multifunctional systems (MFPs), and single-function digital copiers (SF DC).

For third-quarter 2018, IDC had reported that worldwide shipments were down 1.2 percent, while for second-quarter 2018, it had reported that worldwide shipments grew 0.9 percent.
