IDC: Global HCP Shipment Experienced Universal Decline

IDC: Global HCP Shipment Experienced Universal DeclineAccording to IDC Worldwide Quarterly Hardcopy Peripherals Tracker, global shipments of hardcopy peripherals (HCP) experienced a widespread decline in the fourth quarter of 2023.The total number of units shipped reached 21.1 million, marking decrease of 15.5% compared to the previous year.

Shipment value for Q4 also, dropped to $9.7 billion by 11.7%. The decrease can be attributed to lower demands for imaging devices as well as tightening financing conditions. Throughout 2023 as a whole, both shipment units and value respectively declined by 8.4% and 1.4% year over year.

The decline was observed across all regions globally, with shipment downturns ranging from 5.9% to 30.6%. Even in the largest geographic markets such as the United States, Western Europe and China, declines were notable. Among these, the United States was subjected to a mildest drop of just 6.1%, followed by Western Europe decrease at 11.8%. China saw the most significant decline of 30.6%, primarily because of slower economic recovery and deeper IT spending.

Regrading companies, the top five in printing industry experienced shipment shrinking to different extents. Brother fell by 7.5%, the least among the five companies, mainly due to an increase in users resulting from the popularity of its latest A4 color laser models offered at highly competitive prices.

Epson and Canon closely competed for the second position throughout 2023, while other companies remained relatively stable.
