Three Companies Issued Seizure and Forfeiture Orders

The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) has issued separate seizure and forfeiture orders against three companies for their attempts to import inkjet ink supplies and components that violate the General Exclusion Order (GEO) related to the 337-TA-723 investigation.

The companies include the Georgia-based US Inker Technology, the Michigan-based Appearances International LLC, and the California-based Elmart Inc.

At first the Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (“Customs”) denied entry of such articles into the United States and informed the USITC. In response as is the regular practice, the USITC decides on the whether or not to issue seizure and forfeiture orders based on the document ation it receives from Customs.

Copies of all three seizure and forfeiture orders, dated February 18, have been provided to RT Media.

On May 25, 2010, Hewlett Packard Company, USA and Hewlett-Packard Development Company, USA filed a lawsuit, claiming 7 companies infringed its six patents Nos.: 6,234,598; 6,309,053; 6,398,347; 6,402,279; 6,412,917; 6,481,817. As a result, the USITC instituted a 337-TA-723 investigation on Jun 25, 2010 and issued a GEO on October 24, 2011.
