PFU Launches New Copiers with Original Features

A Japanese information technology company, PFU*,  jointly owned by Ricoh and Fujitsu, has launched new copiers with some original features.

The new devices include automatic skew correction and staple detection. These new products are the ADF expansions of the ‘fi series’ and include three models: Ricoh fi-8950, Ricoh fi-8930, and Ricoh fi-8820.

PFU claims the new copier marks a significant advancement compared to previous models, Ricoh fi-7900 and Ricoh fi-7800, and will assist users in financial, medical, and BPO industries where scanning is necessary. High scanning speed and large capacity are the basic features of it. For example, fi-8950 boasts a maximum speed of 300 pages per minute and a paper tray accommodating up to 750 sheets.

These new copiers from PFU showcase groundbreaking features, elevating scanning capabilities and addressing common challenges users face. Among the copiers’ standout features, PFU proudly presents several that it deems to be ‘world-firsts.’

Automatic Skew Correction

Paper misalignment often leads to frustrating paper jams. The new function can effectively prevent these occasions. When the papers are not aligned, rollers on each side will straighten them one by one before feeding them into the scanner. This function proves particularly useful when scanning thin papers that are hard to align and when dealing with large volumes of documents or mixed paper sizes. This technology will dramatically enhance scanning stability and efficiency.

Staple Detection

Additionally, the scanner incorporates a novel ‘staple detection’ function that allows it to precisely locate any staple on documents, thus preventing potential damage to the scanner. While users may overlook staples within a pile of papers, the scanner will not. If a paper is lifted due to a staple, the contact staple detector will accurately detect it and promptly stop feeding. Moreover, this function does not hinder regular usage, as folded or creased papers will not be misidentified and stopped accidentally.

Dual Path structure

The scanner has a traditional ‘manual/single mode’ for bulk document scanning without the need for separation. However, if users need to scan important documents that cannot be folded, like envelopes or certificates, they can select the ‘straight scanning’ mode, which allows the document to be conveyed straight through instead of in a U-turn route.PFU Launches New Copiers with Original Features

Output Control

To improve the outputting performance of the scanner, PFU has made adjustments to its ejection section. Now, even small documents scanned at high speed are stacked neatly in the order they were scanned, thanks to instant brake adjustments based on document size. This ensures minimal scattering and maintains efficient workflow.
