MPS Systems, the Dutch manufacturer of automated label and packaging presses, has resurfaced as MPS Printing following a management-led buyout (MBO) that concludes a turbulent month marked by financial distress, court protection, and eventual bankruptcy proceedings.

MPS Systems Reborn as MPS Printing

In late October, MPS Systems and three related Dutch entities entered a court-sanctioned provisional suspension of payments, with an independent administrator appointed to support the company in evaluating restructuring options. At the time, the company stated that operations — including service, support, and commissioning — would continue where possible, and emphasized that maintaining continuity for customers and employees was a priority. MPS reported more than 800 global installations, with international branches in the UK, Asia, and the US.

Despite these efforts, the company was declared bankrupt in early November. Production, deliveries, and services were temporarily halted, while court-appointed trustee E.R. Looijen initiated discussions with potential buyers for a going-concern sale of MPS activities and assets. Liquidation appeared likely.

However, in late November, the situation shifted significantly. UK managing director Nick Tyrer and company co-founder Bert van den Brink completed an MBO, acquiring the company’s operations and relaunching it under the new name MPS Printing. According to the new ownership, an MBO offered the strongest opportunity to preserve operational knowledge and ensure continuity for customers.

With the relaunch, MPS Printing stated that access to machines, parts, service, and technical support will resume. The company will contact customers individually regarding ongoing service agreements to clarify contract status, scheduling, and pricing. Payments and invoices issued prior to the bankruptcy fall under the jurisdiction of the bankruptcy trustee and will be handled in accordance with legal procedures.

The new management team has outlined a plan to reposition the company as a stable and sustainably operating business. Key priorities include renewed investment in service and technical support, strengthening the company’s business model, increasing organizational transparency and efficiency, and implementing lifecycle-driven development for its product portfolio. The company noted that future strategy will emphasize service and recurring revenue, alongside selective new equipment sales.

MPS Printing acknowledged the impact of recent events on employees, customers, suppliers, and partners, expressing appreciation for their continued engagement during the restructuring period. The company stated it aims to restore confidence through consistent communication and reliable operations as it begins this new phase.
