More HP Counterfeit Cartridges Seized

Following recent raids on counterfeit print consumables in China and Malaysia, another infringing goods operation has been busted, this time in India.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) claims counterfeit print cartridges and components were seized during raids in four cities across India, namely Bangalore, Mysore, Belgaum and Hasan. The value of the confiscated goods amounted to Rs 1.4 crore (approximately US$2.15 million).

According to Tonernews, in all, HP have seized more than 1,149 toner cartridges and ink cartridges as well as more than 12,080 counterfeit components between January and mid-October 2015 in a joint action between the OEM and local authorities.

It is believed that the south western state of Karnataka has become a major counterfeit hub with a large number of counterfeit manufacturers, distributors and sellers of counterfeit HP components.

An HP spokesperson said that since January 2015, more than 345,000 counterfeit cartridges and components worth more than Rs 35.5 crore (US$54.5 million) were seized by local law enforcement agencies across 46 cities in 18 states in the country.
