iPrint (China) Expo 2013: Will Digital Press Print Shops Go with 3D Printing?

The Economist expects the fast-growing 3D printing revolution—which is in its transformational phase—could lead to the third industrial revolution. More and more businesses, e.g. shoemaking, industrial design, medical industry, etc. are making use of 3D printing. Many people are wondering if digital press shops and kiosks might get onboard and get equipped for 3D printing. Will this idea work?

This October 17th-19th, the Professional Digital Press and Commercial Printing Show in China—iPrint (China) Expo 2013, to be held in Zhuhai Airshow Center, China—will introduce state-of-the-art 3D printing technology and applications. A 3,000 m2 3D printing zone has been allotted at the exhibition. A brand-new experience center displaying the future of 3D printing together with a digital press print shop will also be on show. Visitors will be able to experience first hand the fascinating 3D printers, digital press and commercial printing equipment and personalized 3D printing products.

According to show organizers, the 3D printing market is booming in China. It has the full support of the Chinese government through economic policies which support its development as a key industry. There are more than 500,000 digital press print shops and kiosks in China which are expected to become the most cost-effective and convenient platform to popularize 3D printing in China. For this reason organizers have moved quickly to introduce 3D printing to the show and digital press print shops.

Many exhibitors are also optimistic about the business model of combining 3D printing and digital printing shops. Mr Yu—the managing director of Jiangxi Linker 3D Tech Co—says, “Although personalized 3D printing products are not so well known at the moment, they are gradually being accepted and loved by more and more people. Digital press print shops will definitely develop into being important channels to popularize and personalize 3D printing in the community. For this reason the iPrint Expo effectively provides a communication and cooperation platform for people looking for 3D printing, and digital press and commercial printing opportunities.”
