HP Takes Off 2,000 Fake Products from UK Market

After three separate actions conducted by HP and UK authorities, which seized a total of almost 2,000 counterfeit HP toner cartridges, the OEM released a report stating counterfeiting of cartridges for HP printers in Europe has received a severe setback.

According to HP’s report, in October and November, UK authorities took actions against two companies selling fake cartridges online. With the supports from HP ACF (Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud) experts, the UK officials raided the companies’ storage.

In November, HP ACF experts identified hundreds of counterfeits at a major distributor that is not an HP partner and numerous illegal cartridges may have already flown into market.

The OEM concluded between November 2014 and November 2015, European Union has successfully taken off over 20,000 fake HP-branded articles from the market. In particular, the authorities in France, Germany and Spain had seized thousands of counterfeit HP-branded cartridges and computing products.

In order to protect customers from counterfeit products, HP has initiated a dedicated Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud (ACF) Program. Over the past five years, the ACF Program supported authorities in Europe, the Middle East and Africa (EMEA) to seize nearly 12 million illegal articles. In addition, HP’s experts also conducted over 4,200 unannounced Channel Partner Protection Audits in the EMEA region to ensure the products from HP’s authorized sales channel are genuine.
