Czech Republic Recycles 68% of Paper – Among Best in Europe

Czechs recycled 68% of their used paper in 2015, an increase of 43% compared with 15 years ago. The maximum collecting capacity for recycling is expected to be 78%.

The Prague Daily Monitor reported that the Czech paper collection and recycling system is one of the best in Europe. Every year, a total of 900,000 tons of waste paper are collected in the country, 200 tons of which are processed in domestic paper works. This number has, however, largely decreased since the fall of the communist regime in 1989.

The price of used paper varies depending on its conditions, but also on other factors, such as the Chinese demand. The use of waste paper as the major raw material for its paper production has made China one of the main factors to determine the price of used paper. In spite of this, it does not pay Czech dealers to export paper to China because of the high transportation costs involved.
