Xerox Joins Electronics Recycling Coalition

Counterfeit Electronics Pose A Serious Threat

According to Electronic Recyclers International (ERI), the world’s largest privately held recycler of electronic waste, counterfeit electronics from China pose a serious threat to the US market. As the high imitation standards of counterfeits really makes it difficult to distinguish them from branded parts.

A recent report pointed out that counterfeit electronic parts from China were discovered to be in use within U.S defense systems. Nearly 1,800 cases of suspected counterfeits were found in defense equipment, including missile systems, helicopters and submarines. This is due to the fact that E-scrap companies and brokers illicitly ship unwanted electronic parts to China, instead of taking the responsibility of recycling them within the US.

Shegerian, chairman of ERI, called for further tightening of the country’s export policy so as to prevent non-working electronic scrap from being used for counterfeiting purposes. Necessary amendments are also needed for existing export policy to ensure national security in light of exporting materials.
