Canon Takes Another Legal Action in UK

On August 28, Canon filed a patent infringement lawsuit before the High Court of Justice of England and Wales. The OEM sued Badger Office Supplies Limited, Inkjet Direct Limited, and Greentrees International Limited for infringement of Canon’s European Patent (UK) number 2 087 407.

Canon alleges those defendants infringed its patent by “inter alia (among other things), the importation, manufacture and sale of certain toner cartridges for use in various models of Canon and Hewlett-Packard laser beam printers”. Also, Canon is asking for “remedies including an injunction and damages”.

Repeating its often quoted dictum, Canon noted it “respects the intellectual property of other companies and individuals and expects others to similarly respect Canon’s intellectual property rights.” Also, the OEM said it “remains committed to pursuing legal enforcement against those who do not respect Canon’s intellectual property.”

Recycling Times reported that Canon, on July 14, announced the commencement of a patent infringement action in the High Court of Justice of England and Wales against European Cartridge Warehouse Limited and Printer Supplies Technology Limited for infringement of Canon’s European Patent (UK) number 2 087 407. According to The Recycler.com, these two companies subsequently filed for dissolution in August.
