Canon Printers Remain Top Choice in the Philippines

Canon Philippines’ President and CEO Lim Kok Hin announced sales of more printers for the first quarter of this year (1Q2014) than during the same period last year. According to the Manila Bulletin, despite the popularity of smartphones and the boom in paperless solutions, sales of printers are increasing, said Lim Kok Hin.

Lim points out that although paperless solutions are becoming popular, households and businesses continue to support hard copy prints.

“As for printers, the wide variety of information the Internet provides has heightened the need for hard document copies. Likewise, Canon now offers photo printers and papers that can make prints last up to 300 years—making  memories more lasting,” he added.

Based on first half market studies, Lim noted Canon remains the top choice among printer brands. Canon’s inkjet devices account for 34% of the market share while laser-based, single function printers captured 35% market share.

Lim asserted that Canon wants to hold its position as the top printer brand in the Philippines, saying, “The Philippine market is not so small as what people assume it to be. Based on demographics, 10% of the Philippines’ 100 million population can afford the most sophisticated technology. Ten million is double the population of Singapore that’s why the potential in the Philippines is quite tremendous.”
