Canon India Pvt. Limited, India’s No 1. Complete Digital Imaging Company today announced its confidence in bullish retail expansion plans for India, with the opening of its iconic 101st Canon Image Square (CIS) in Trivandrum. This is the first CIS outlet of the town and the launch will be followed by the opening of the 102nd CIS outlet at the Lulu mall in Cochin tomorrow. Following Canon’s successful footprint in the retail domain in Kerala; this is the 2nd exclusive CIS outlet in the tourist hub of India.

The brand has developed robust plans including aggressive marketing strategy, new product launches, attractive pricing and retail expansion, with an aim to achieve an overall target of 25% market share in digital compacts and 45% in D-SLR during April – June 2013. All this will help the company to reach revenues of INR 2125 crore by the end of 2013 from Rs 1,850 crore in 2012 which is 15% growth.

Speaking on the launch Dr. Alok Bharadwaj, Executive Vice President, Canon India said, “Photography industry in India is reconfiguring itself by manifesting in the form of growing interest in higher functionality in compacts and digital SLR. Keeping this in mind, markets like Kerala are extremely critical for Canon’s growth in India as Canon registered 26% growth in camera biz in Kerala. In fact for DSLR biz, Kerala emerged as third biggest market in India after Maharashtra & Delhi with 53% positive growth. Canon has set up 3 specialty photography stores in Kerala called Canon Image square. Through this exclusive CIS, we aim to reach our customers and bring them the expertise of a wide range of Canon products and provide them with an interactive and informative buying experience. Low light photography, super telephoto zoom beyond 16X going to 50X & FHD video capabilities are 3 big differentiators for high functional compacts from smart phones. Canon will pursue that path and these CIS stores will reinforce this experience”
