Canon China Launches New IJ Printers

Canon China recently released new printers in the Chinese market, including four inkjet all-in-ones for home users—the PIXMA MG7180, MG6400, MG5580, and MG3580—and the Océ PlotWave 360 large format monochrome printing system.

According to Jiqiang Rong, Director of Primary Research with the Photizo Group, “The large format release to the Chinese market highlights Canon China’s strategy of leveraging Océ’s products in China to achieve its goal of growing sales by 20% in 2013 over the previous year. While this product targets technical users in certain verticals, such as architecture, the four new ink jet all-in-ones are for home users, especially photo enthusiasts”.

Mr. Rong thinks Canon’s new products will help it grow its business, but only modestly, especially for the new inkjet all-in-ones. He suggests the home photo printing market is declining and the devices’ higher cost will prompt customers to consider competitive Epson and HP devices.
