Aftermarket Company Calls Attention for Remanufacturing

Lansing, West Sussex-based BCMY Ltd is one of the UK’s premier processors of used printer cartridges and receives materials from across the UK and Europe.

According to hub-4.com, receiving used laser & toner cartridges, BCMY decides whether the item can be reused or if it needs to be recycled. Around 62% of all cartridges BCYM receives are reused. And 15% of the cartridges are poorer quality replicas and compatibles from the Far East and 20% are used remanufactured cartridges, which means that an increasing number need to be considered for internal recycling.

Also, it is stated 250 million ink cartridges and the 40 million toner cartridges are currently used in the West Europe. But only about 15% of the ink and 25% of the toner cartridges are recycled. The rest go to ending up in landfill. Classed as a hazardous material, the cartridges can take more than 1,000 years to decompose. They may cause explosion from the small particle size of the toner dust, so any post-consumer processing needs to be expertly managed.
