Updated HP White Paper Warns Aftermarket Cartridge Suppliers

Hewlett-Packard (HP) has updated its White Paper on aftermarket chips used in HP Laserjet printers, recommending additional necessary changes to the aftermarket industry to avoid brand misidentification.

The White Paper is available on HP’s website and is also being distributed exclusively through Recycling Times Media to the aftermarket industry. HP first released its White Paper globally in October, at the RemaxAsia Conference in Zhuhai. They publicly urged the aftermarket to stop misleading consumers with inappropriate messages displayed from their printer cartridges.

Static Control was publicly identified at the Zhuhai Conference for being the first to comply with the aftermarket chips they manufacture and distribute. Within weeks, a dozen other aftermarket chip suppliers and cartridge manufacturers, such as Delacamp, Future Graphics, Apex, UTec and Green Project, have rolled out announcements asserting compliance with HP’s requirements.

In response to aftermarket’s prompt actions to comply, Elizabeth Porter, Worldwide Toner Competitive Response Manager, Hewlett-Packard, told Recycling Times’ weekly inTouch TV news: “Based on the response we’ve seen, I think the industry understands the importance of chip manufacturers providing accurate information to their customers about the kind of cartridge that they have installed in their printers. I’m aware that many chip manufacturers have stated that they intend to fix this issue and begin providing accurate brand authentication. And we look forward to validating these results in the future.”

HP say they chose Recycling Times to release the White Paper, including the second version on December 5, because the media organisation has effective links with the global aftermarket industry through its multi-media news channels (print, web, broadcast and social media), the annual Zhuhai Conference and the RemaxAsia Expo.
