Six New Colour Lasers Coming From Brother

Brother’s latest colour LED printers and multi-function devices are aimed at home offices and small and medium businesses.

The new range comprises two printers and four MFDs, with prices ranging from $249 to $549.

All models incorporate duplex printing (which can be set as the default in order to save paper), 600×2400 dpi, Wi-Fi connectivity (with support for AirPrint, Google Cloud Print, Mopria and Windows Mobile Printing, as well as Brother’s own iPrint&Scan app), a 250-sheet paper tray, and high-yield toner said to be good for up to 2300 pages at a lower cost per page. Toner-save mode further reduces the cost of printing “while still maintaining crisp text and vibrant colours,” according to Brother.

On the security side, they allow the use of PINs to impose page limits and to restrict the use of features such as colour printing, a secure print mode that holds jobs until the user enters their unique password on the keypad; and a setting lock to prevent unauthorised users from tampering with the configuration.

The entry-level model is the $249 HL-L3230CDW – an Officeworks exclusive – is rated at up to 18ppm, with a first print time of less than 15.5 seconds.

The other new printer is the $299 HL-L3270CDW, with print speeds up to 24ppm and a slightly faster first print time. It also features Ethernet connectivity, plus NFC capability to simplify printing from NFC-enabled mobile devices.

Both printers will go on sale on 1 September 2018.

Turning to the MFDs (which will arrive on 1 October), the new range starts with the $349 DCP-L3510CDW, also exclusively available from Officeworks. The scanning/copying side features a 50-sheet ADF, with speeds up to 27 ipm (mono) and 21 ipm (colour). Print speed matches the HL-L3230CDW.

Then there are the MFC-L3745CDW and the MFC-L3750CDW, each priced at $399. They have the same scanning specifications as the DCP-L3510CDW, but with print speeds up to 24ppm and the addition of faxing capability. The main differences between them is that the MFC-L3750CDW includes the ability to print directly from and to scan to a USB drive, and it will only be available from Officeworks.

Finally, the $549 MFC-L3770CDW will only be available from Brother’s network of authorised partners. Its specifications are generally similar to the MFC-L3750CDW, but with dual sensors on the ADF allowing both sides of the page to be scanned in one pass.
