Samsung to Sell Its Printer Business?

Samsung is reported to be considering selling its printer business to HP for US$1.8 billion.

According to Reuters, the potential movement attributes to the company’s shifting focus to its core business. The announcement of the decision will likely be made by Samsung next week, stated in the paper cited by an unnamed senior firm source. However, the company has not yet commented on the rumors or speculation, and the media could not reach the office of HP in Seoul for immediate comment.

Although the OEM did not release the printer sales report separately, the IDC research said Samsung ranked 5th in the second quarter. It occupied 4.0% of shares in the hardcopy peripherals markets globally.

As part of a broader restructuring process, Samsung Electronics and the broader Samsung Group have been withdrawing capital and exiting non-core businesses. It decided to end the LED lighting business outside South Korea in 2014. The defense and chemical assets were announced to sell to different groups in 2014 and 2015 as well.
