India Document Printer Shipments Recorded 0.76 Million Units

The number of document printer shipments in India exceeded 760,000 during the first quarter of 2015 (Q1 2015).

According to 6Wresearch, as many as 13 vendors shipped document printers into the Indian market. Hewlett Packard led the market followed by Epson and Canon. HP and Epson hold 67% of the market between them. Other major players were Ricoh, Brother, Samsung and Kyocera. Six of the OEMs shipped 15,000 or more units each.

Laser printers accounted for 51% of the shipments, while the number of inkjet printers shipped was of 46%. Others printing technologies (including dot matrix and thermal printers) accounted for just 3%. Pulkit Shrivastava, analyst of 6Wresearch-India Electronics Division, says, “There has been a consistent rise in the demand for laser technology owing to fast printing speed, better ownership cost and efficient use of peripherals such as toner.“

Multifunction printers account for 67% of the market share of first quarter shipments, while those with WiFi capability account for about 20% of the market share.

According to 6Wresearch, the constant decline in Application Service Providers (ASP), an increasing demand from the Small to Medium Business (SMB) segment and technological advancements in printing methods are the key factors driving the India document printer market.
