IDC Reports Overall Decline in Western European HCP Market for 2Q2015

Research from International Data Corporation (IDC) reveals an overall weak performance of the Western European printer and multifunction (MFP) market in the second quarter of 2015 (2Q2015). The whole market saw a year-on-year (YOY) decline of 2.6% in units to 4.79 million. Both inkjet and laser segments delivered negative performances in shipments. However, revenues increased 6.6%, due mainly to the growth in multifunction laser segment.

Looking at the segments, business inkjets continued to deliver a strong performance in 2Q2015, increased by 16.3% YOY. MFP Products reported a growth of 21.9%, the highest growth rate which accounts for 79.8% of all shipments. Germany alone represented 31.6% of the business inkjet market, followed by the U.K. and France. While MFP increased in units, printer markets showed a decrease of 16.6%. Despite the overall 5.5% YOY decline in laser market, laser MFPs contributed the only growth, at 2.5%, with 6.3% for color devices and -0.9% for mono. Quite contrary with A3 devices, A4 devices declined 2.9% in 2Q15.

Delphine Carnet, senior research analyst at IDC’s Western European Imaging, Hardware Devices, and Document Solutions Group, commented, “The negative second quarter of 2015 follows several positive quarters in the hardcopy market in Western Europe. In fact, IDC has forecast this decline and predicted that the market would slow down after a good performance in 2014 and 1Q15.”
