IDC Releases China’s Printer Market Report for H1 2025
China’s printer market continued to lose steam in the first half of 2025 as weak demand and tighter budgets dragged shipments down 5.5 percent year-on-year to 6.56 million units, according to IDC. Inkjet printers fell 5.6 percent, A4 laser devices dropped 5.0 percent, and A3 models slumped 10.0 percent.

Government subsidies aimed at stimulating purchases have done little to lift the market. Cartridge-based inkjets plunged 16.4 percent, while ink tank models bucked the trend with 2.6 percent growth, boosted by steady household demand and a shift among business users seeking lower running costs.
Laser devices faced sharper declines as small businesses cut spending and larger enterprises, along with government buyers, tightened budgets. A4 printers fell across both black-and-white and color models, while A3 color printers saw an almost 20 percent plunge. Heightened competition from domestic brands has further squeezed prices, and many buyers are extending the life of existing machines or turning to refurbished equipment instead of new purchases.
IDC’s senior research manager Shana Wang said a strong recovery is unlikely this year. With print volumes continuing to decline, she noted, the market is shifting focus from hardware to services, document management, and digital transformation, while competition among brands is set to intensify.
