Drugs Hidden in Cartridges: Police Alerted

International police have alerted the Cyprus Drug Squad (YKAN) over new ways European drug traffickers are getting drugs onto the popular Mediterranean island.

According to in-cyprus.com, narcotics are being concealed inside printer cartridges and photocopier toner bottles, making it extremely difficult to be detected.

Due to the similarity between toner powder and drug powder, it is not easy to detect the drugs, usually cocaine or marijuana, even with the use of x-ray equipment.

The Customs and Exile Department has also been warned to increase controls and checks at Larnaca and Paphos airports as well as Limassol Port.

Despite strict checks, no drugs have been found as yet by the Cyprus authorities in printer cartridges. However an YKAN spokesperson has declared tougher control measures have been implemented and the offenders will be caught.
