Dell Releases Two New Monochrome Laser MFPs

Dell recently launches the B1165nfw and B1265dfw, two new A4 monochrome laser MFPs for small-office/home-office (SOHO) customers and small businesses.

Both machines are additions to the line of low-end monochrome laser devices that Dell released about one year ago. A Dell spokesperson reveals that the B1165nfw is based on the same Samsung engine design as the B1160/B1160w monochrome laser printers. This laser printer costs approximately $200. The B1265dfw adopts the same Samsung-developed engine as the B1260dn and B1265dnf. The B1265dfw is essentially the same with the B1265dnf but adds wireless connectivity.

The key features are Nuance PaperPort v14 document-management software which enables end users to scan, view, edit, and share PDF files as well as organize and manage documents; wireless networking; and the Dell printer easy-to-use Wi-Fi installer.

The $199.99 B1165nfw is a four-function MFP with a print speed of 21 ppm, a 40-sheet automatic document feeder (ADF), and 150 sheets of paper input. The $279.99 B1265dfw is also a four-function MFP, but it offers a faster output speed of 29 ppm, standard automatic duplexing, and 251 sheets of paper input. The higher-end unit also takes a different set of toner cartridges that offers a lower best cost per page (CPP).

The B1165nfw uses the same ship-with and replacement toner cartridges as the single-function B1160/B1160w. CPP on this unit is 4.0 cents.

The B1265dfw takes the same toner cartridges as its siblings, the B1260dn/B1256dnf. CPP on this MFP is 3.32 cents.

The CPP figures may sound high, but they are actually fairly representative of page costs for entry-level monochrome laser MFPs.

According to the spokesperson, the new monochrome MFPs feature affordable prices and versatility, rich features, and dependable performance that small businesses and SOHO users require. And large enterprise customers with small workgroup needs are also potential customers for the B1165nfw and B1265dfw.
