The removal process involved utilizing Amazon’s reporting tool, letters of inquiry and information letters. The impact of these removals will primarily be felt in European countries, including the United Kingdom, Germany, France, Italy, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden, Poland, and Belgium. Notably, Sweden, Poland, and Belgium only began experiencing Canon’s Amazon activities in the second quarter of 2023. In North America, Canon focused primarily on the United States of America, Canada, and Mexico.

The following chart provides a breakdown of the number of listings Canon removed in Europe:

Country Number of removed listings
United Kingdom 91
Germany 113
France 103
Italy 116
The Netherlands 115
Spain 112
Sweden 101
Poland 103
Belgium 18

Since June 2018, Canon has been actively removing listings from Amazon in the mentioned countries, as part of its commitment to defending its intellectual property and respecting the intellectual property rights of others. To date, Canon has successfully removed a total of 32,502 listings in Europe and 4,074 listings in North America. The majority of these listings involve third-party vendors offering laser printer toner cartridges that may potentially infringe on one or more of Canon’s patents.

Canon emphasizes that these removal actions are undertaken with the dual purpose of respecting the intellectual property rights of others and enforcing its own rights.
