Through its research and development efforts, Canon has obtained a large and robust portfolio of patents. In order to protect its many innovations, Canon enforces its patents against various toner cartridge designs that Canon believes infringe its patent rights.

While Canon had previously filed infringement reports with based on Canon’s U.S. Patent No. 8,688,008 against compatible cartridges having the same relevant structure as genuine HP toner cartridge models CF217, and CF230, these latest reports were based on Canon’s U.S. Pat. No. 11,314,199, which covers alternative designs.
