Canon Announces Settlement of Provantage, LLC Patent Infringement Suit

On May 19, Canon announced it has settled a patent infringement lawsuit against Provantage, LLC in New York’s Southern District Court.
Provantage, LLC is one of the18 toner cartridge remanufacturers and other aftermarket suppliers accused by Canon on January 29 in the above court. Provantage was claimed to have infringed Canon patents covering certain toner cartridges and photosensitive drum units sold for use in Canon and Hewlett-Packard laser beam printers.

Canon claims, “Provantage has stipulated to a consent judgment and permanent injunction from the Southern District of New York, which prohibits Provantage from making, using, selling and offering for sale in the U.S., and from importing into the U.S., the toner cartridges and photosensitive drum units that infringe Canon’s U.S. Patent Nos. 8,135,304, 8,280,278, 8,369,744, 8,532,533, 8,565,640, and 8,630,564.”

Moreover, Canon stressed that it respects the intellectual property rights of other companies and individuals and hope others to do the same, adding that Canon remains committed to pursuing legal enforcement against those who do not respect Canon’s intellectual property.
