Business Picks Up

A South African-based supplier of components for imaging supplies claims his business has increased significantly despite the tough times being faced by cartridge remanufacturers elsewhere in the world.

Patrick Naude (pictured), the founding managing director of CMYK Industries says he continues to pick up big orders for component supplies from remanufacturers in the region thanks mainly to a change in business strategy by Static Control Components (SCC).

“SCC has been very successful in supplying the industry with various components needed for remanufacturing cartridges for decades,” Naude told RT Media. “They are well known for the supply of quality products including microchips, OPC drums and toners, among others.”

According to Naude, SCC appears to be changing its strategy from supplying remanufacturers with parts and components as it chases after a different market. “They have let more than ten staff go in their South African office and warehouse this month with plans to let more go in the new year,” Naude claims. “These staff were mainly involved with sales and supplying the component parts. It appears sales of the SCC branded, fully new-built compatible cartridges are doing very well with government and corporate sales, so SCC is focusing more on direct sales instead of component sales to remanufacturers and resellers.”

Naude claims his CMYK Industries company, which is based in Durban, has also been supplying quality parts and components to remanufacturers in South Africa and neighboring regions in Africa for more than ten years. “We continue to pick up requests for supplies needed by remanufacturers wanting to continue with the ‘reuse’ product instead of new-build compatibles,” Naude added. “Some of the orders are significantly large.” Naude also explains that the sale of parts and components is only part of the service remanufacturers need. “They also want technical advice and after-sales support, which we are well prepared to continue providing as we have done for years.”

Naude says remanufacturing provides a better solution for consumers because it not only offers supplies to them at a cheaper price, but remanufacturing employs local South Africans and it reuses resources that would otherwise end up being trashed.
