It appears that patent trolling is a successful family business for the Freeny brothers. Earlier this year, Charles C. Freeny III, Bryan E. Freeny, and James P. Freeny filed lawsuits against six printer OEMs, including Brother, Konica Minolta, Lexmark, OKI, Ricoh, and Xerox, accusing them of infringing four patents that the brothers inherited from their inventor father.
The issue, according to Actionable Intelligence, relates to wireless communication technologies where a single device is able to perform multiple functions. “The lawsuits claim that multiple MFPs sold by Brother, Konica Minolta, Lexmark, OKI, Ricoh, and Xerox infringe the four patents.”
