The Sharp MX-3070 is sold worldwide and is a color multifunction laser printing up to 30 ppm.

Sharp released a firmware update for its devices in the USA, Europe and the Middle East causing errors where aftermarket supplies and chips have been installed.

In response, China-based Apex Microelectronics (Apex) has provided a solution. In a statement, Apex said, “We have released an updated solution for the Sharp MX60 series after we found a firmware update had been released.”

According to Apex, the new firmware 04.02.72 impacted printers using the MX60 series cartridges in April 2020.

It caused some errors with replacement chips which are no longer recognised by printers such as MX-2651, MX-3071, etc.

The printer prompts an “Install the toner cartridge” error message:

Apex claims its updated solution for Sharp MX60 series cartridges can be applied to old and newly produced printers and models that use the same technology. “Apex will continue to monitor firmware updates and provide customers with high-quality solutions immediately.”
