Amazon Hit by US Customs Over Cartridge Violation

Amazon Hit by US Customs Over Cartridge ViolationWhile attempting to import inkjet cartridge products into U.S.A., giant online retailer Amazon.com, the U.S. Bureau of Customs and Border Protection (Customs) has seized products that violate the General Exclusion Order (GEO) connected to a 337-TA-691 investigation.

According to copies of the orders provided to RT Media, Customs informed the International Trade Commission (USITC) Seattle-based Amazon’s products were seized, and will also be forfeited.

The orders issued against Amazon, prohibit Amazon from importing any GEO-infringing inkjet ink supplies and components products.

On September 23, 2009, HP U.S.A filed complaint against 11 companies, asserting the respondents has violated its U.S. Patent Nos. 6,089,687; 6,264,301; 6,959,985; and 7,104,630. The USITC instituted investigation, titled 337-TA-691, on October 29, 2009. The investigation concluded with a GEO being granted on January 7, 2011.
