ACCC sets OfficeMax/COS decision date

Opi breaks the news that the Australian consumer watchdog ACCC has set a date for its decision on the acquisition of OfficeMax by Complete Office Supplies (COS).

It said an announcement on the findings of the informal review would be released by 16 November. This could be a final decision or release of a Statement of Issues detailing its concerns.

It is the same day as the planned final ruling on the proposed merger of OfficeMax and Staples Australia and New Zealand (now Winc).

COS made a surprise rival bid for OfficeMax back in July after announcing it would seek a court injunction against Staples if its own merger plans went ahead.

The decision has been delayed a number of times while the ACCC asked for more information from interested parties.
