HP Closed Inkjet Patent Infringement Lawsuit in Poland

HP announced its victory of Inkjet Patent-Infringement prosecution in Poland by a settlement agreement with two top Poland suppliers of third-party inkjet cartridges.

The targets of HP’s litigation are Action S.A. and AB S.A, two of Poland’s leading compatible inkjet printer brands. The OEM won the case by getting both agree to cease selling a number of infringing compatible inkjet cartridges in Poland and other countries.

According to Actionable Intelligence, the inkjet cartridges involved in the case are integrated cartridges including a print head. The agreement concerns compatible versions of the HP 21, 22, 27, 28, 56, 57, 300, 301, 336, 337, 338, 339, 342, 343, 344, 350, 351, and 901. Under the agreement,  Action S.A. and AB S.A acknowledge that HP’s patents are valid and promise to stop the selling of certain cartridges.

It’s said that AB S.A has also arranged for the destroying of its existing inventory and Action S.A.. has borne part of the litigation fees HP has paid.

HP did not disclose details about what patents were allegedly infringed by these Polish firms. It is probably safe to assume that the patents-in-suit covered the print heads, which is where the bulk of the intellectual property resides in cartridges of this type.
