HP to Exit Boise by 2027
HP to Exit Boise by 2027
HP Inc. plans to shut down its Boise operations and fully exit Idaho by the end of its 2027 fiscal year, closing a chapter that spans more than five decades at its long-time campus along Chinden Boulevard.

In an email sent to employees in early March, the company’s executive team confirmed it will wind down operations at its facility between Five Mile Road and Cloverdale Road by Oct. 31, 2027. The Boise site has served as a major technology employer since the 1970s and was central to the development of HP’s printer business.
About 1,100 employees currently work at the Boise campus, most within the company’s LaserJet division. At its peak, the site employed roughly 4,000 people and played a significant role in establishing Boise as a regional technology hub.
Company officials said the move is part of a broader restructuring effort known as HP’s “global location strategy,” announced in September 2025. The initiative consolidates operations into eight core hubs worldwide where the company intends to focus hiring and investment. In the Pacific Northwest, HP plans to center its activities in two Oregon locations—Portland and Corvallis—shifting work away from Boise.
In a written statement, HP said Boise had made major contributions to its printing business and emphasized that the closure does not signal a retreat from its broader Print segment.
HP first established operations in Boise in the mid-1970s and later developed its LaserJet printer there. Over time, the company gradually reduced its footprint on the roughly 200-acre campus, selling portions of the property to the State of Idaho while leasing back office space.
For Boise’s technology community, HP’s planned exit marks the end of an era, even as local leaders work to absorb displaced workers into the region’s growing tech, government and services sectors.
