Q4 Market Dynamics Observed
What the Market Looks Like before Entering 2026
Looking back at the final quarter of 2025, several key market dynamics emerged. Industry news, product launches, and expert insights during this period shaped the year-end landscape and provided clear signals of trends likely to influence 2026.
Macro Trends That Caught Attention
-
AI & Cloud Momentum Builds
- At the recent World Printers Summit 2025, industry experts highlighted artificial intelligence as one of the two major themes shaping the industry’s future. Particularly, its growing role in media operations and workflow efficiency.
- Confidence in AI is also rising. In Europe, three-quarters of small and medium-sized business owners report higher trust in AI technology compared with a year ago.
- At the same time, Toshiba America strengthened its cloud capabilities through the acquisition of Youmebee Ltd., aiming to deliver open, flexible, and secure print infrastructure suited to hybrid work environments.
-
Reuse Reinforced
- The European Union reinforced reuse targets across several product categories, including WEEE (waste electrical and electronic equipment) such as printer cartridges. This move underscores the EU’s continued push toward circular-economy models and sustainability compliance.
Together, the acceleration of AI adoption and tightening reuse regulations suggest that success in 2026 will require both technological innovation and environmental responsibility.
Supply Chain and Market Moves
Several strategic moves in Q4 reflected a growing emphasis on regional production, efficiency, and sustainability:
- G&G established a state-of-the-art remanufacturing facility in Hungary, reinforcing Ninestar Image’s commitment to supporting EU sustainability objectives.
- The Indian government signaled plans to impose anti-dumping duties (ADD) on imported mono-toner cartridges, a move expected to reshape pricing, sourcing, and competitive dynamics in the region. It is interesting to note that on 25 December (Christmas Day) the anti-dumping duties were “dumped” by the government.
- Tohoku Epson Corporation expanded inkjet printhead production with a new facility in Yamagata, Japan.
- Katun deepened its strategic distribution partnership with MyQ, offering print-management solutions to dealer partners across the United States, EMEA, and Latin America.
- Tara TPS (South Korea) acquired Chicago Offset, a commercial printer in Illinois, creating a dual-continent manufacturing footprint designed to shorten lead times for North American customers.
- Xerox confirmed the closure of its toner manufacturing facility in Dundalk, Ireland, and the shift of production to Webster, New York. The Dundalk site has since been sold and may be redeveloped.
Innovation Highlights
Innovation during Q4 focused strongly on flexibility, sustainability, and user control:
- LONGER launched the world’s first desktop-class all-in-one printer capable of both UV and DTF printing, enabling product decoration and apparel customization without additional equipment.
- Paris-based startup Open Tools introduced the Open Printer. This is an open-source inkjet printer designed for improved repairability and compatibility with third-party ink cartridges.
These developments highlight growing interest in multifunction capability and open systems that empower users while reducing waste.
